Many of us might have already known that today is National Maritime Day! For those who are not yet familiar with the holiday, National Maritime Day is created to recognize the maritime industry and pays special tribute to the benefits that the maritime industry provides for our country in times of peace and war. This year it is the 79thAnnual Maritime Day. It is observed on May 22, the date that the American steamship Savannah set sail from Savannah, Georgia on the first ever transoceanic voyage under steam power, back in 1819.
Today the holiday is beyond memorizing “privateers who bravely fought for independence” as President Obama proclaimed, but also the modern maritime industry that “sustains the robust domestic and international trade networks.” May is also World Trade Month, which is created to increase awareness of the importance of international trade. Gr8-White will join the nation in commemorating the National Maritime Day and celebrating the World Trade Month. We will help raise the public awareness to better understand the importance of safe and efficient international trade and the roles played by the nation’s ports and will continue to provide safe and highest quality marine products.
