Sea Sponge Study Benefits Coral Reef

  |   Blog, News   |   No comment

A study of sea sponges on the Great Barrier Reef was conducted and it’s findings could help to improve the management and sustainability of other coral reefs.

During the study, research was conducted to examine larval production in the early stages of the sea sponge to determine influence in growth and survival. What scientists ended up finding was that sponges associated near coral reefs were potentially involved in nutrient cycles by targeting very small plankton to the reefs, which filter the water.
